Set into a niche inside one of Holmen’s traditional boat sheds, our latest beverage kitchen is designed to blend into the calm and creative atmosphere of contemporary lifestyle brand Norse Projects’ headquarters. In this historical environment, the aluminium and brushed stainless steel surfaces leave a timeless impression. The reflections of the custom light box paint the space in warm and welcoming tones.

Kitchen 11 is based on Archival Studies’ Standard Kitchen modular system with a customised front. It incorporates the standard drawer modules, welded-in sink, and waste sorting system, as well as two fridges. The system’s modularity and sturdiness in materiality allow for disassembly, replacement, and repair, yielding a design that lasts a life-time.

In our ‘AS in Use’ series, we revisit our projects after a year of use. Here, we feature a family that spends most of their quality time in and around the kitchen. Their primary request was a functional kitchen that is easy to maintain, without sacrificing the softness and purity that characterizes the rest of the house. It was profound to observe how the art collector’s paintings added a dynamic quality to the otherwise harmonious space.

This project brings Archival Studies’ latest lamp development into use. Made of Oregon pine, the wooden frame mirrors the kitchen’s grid structure and softens the metals’ crisp materiality with its warm hue. The LED lights are diffused by PVC panels, which are finally lined with textured shoji paper. The inner frame is detachable to facilitate maintenance.
