This week, 5th grade will start their Kimmy Cantrell inspired cardboard relief mask! I was inspired by the Plastiquem blog and the Handmakery blog. They introduced me to this artist and I wanted to share him with my 5th graders! Here's a link to more information about Kimmy Cantrell! In short, he's a contemporary artist from Atlanta, who makes beautiful, colorful works of art, out of clay, and his subject matter usually consists of faces. Some facts about Kimmy Cantrell… He mostly makes ceramic faces, still lifes and figures. He lives in College Park, Georgia. He is mostly self-taught. He was liked ceramics class in high school. He studied business in college and worked in business management (not art) for 12 years. Once he decided to get back to doing his art, he quit his office job and made art full time. He has his art in many galleries and art shows and has won awards for art work.
