Magnolia blossom

Southern magnolia is an aristocratic tree. It grows well throughout Georgia, is widely adaptable to a variety of soils and has few pest problems. With glossy evergreen foliage and large white fragrant blossoms, it truly is one of the most handsome and durable native trees for our Southern landscapes.

Magnolia blossoms invoke memories of my childhood summers. The fragrance is delicate and fresh, citrus-like. The flowers are 8 to 10 inches across. We used the leaves to decorate for Christmas. The old trees are huge.

If you've ever tried cutting a magnolia off of the tree to enjoy, you know that the second you cut it, the bloom starts to turn brown and looks awful within an hour!
