If you are not able to shorten your horse’s stride, you will never be able to get a horse to fit a stride into a line that is set short. Starting at the walk complete the first set of poles and ask your horse to halt in the centre of the grid. Then, complete a 360 degree turn on the haunches or turn on the forehand. Once you've completed the maneuver, ask your horse to move forward at a walk over the second set of poles. Once you've exited the walk poles, push your horse into a working trot and complete the two sets of trot poles. Once comfortable with this you can then add in the centre maneuver over the trot poles.
