It was originally a wedding present to the mother of Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. Her mother was the Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia and she married the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Then, - a sapphire necklace  also used as a tiara. The daughter - Princess Caroline-Mathilde,had the elements moved around, some diamonds and diamond elements were added. When the Queen died in 1951, this was one of the jewels that was left to her godson, the present Duke of Braganza.
