Chain stich in Tambour work
Chain stitch in Tambour work. Yes, it's out of period (at least for European countries), but I still think that by choosing your designs and materials carefully you could use a tambour hook to work early-period (esp. Viking/Celt/pseudoPictish) decoration far more quickly and easily than normal chainstitching, and even for late period it'd be a good way to put faux blackwork on things like a camping chemise or kids' clothes, table linens and cushions, etc.
