Thomas Hearne was an English landscape painter, engraver and illustrator.

This is a charming and beautifully executed antique still life oil painting on canvass by Jay Ward, dating from around the 1900-1920 period. Fine Quality Still Life Oil Painting

Fine quality oil on canvas still life of onions and crockery. The oil is exceptionally finely done in a very classic fashion with items on a stone shelf. The painting is not signed and is likely a student examination piece. There are some condition issues with areas of craquelure and a repair in the shadow cast by the bowl. The work really is an exceptional still life, worked in purely earth tones, focusing on light and texture, creating a piece with a wonderful realism. The painting is frame in a gilt frame with an interesting craquelure effect, which is likely not the original but has been with it for a long time. The canvas by Rowney dates the work to c.1890. The whole is a very interesting and fine still life with a huge amount of decorative presence.

Oil Painting of a Country House Landscape with Deer

Charming oil on board depicting an extensive country house landscape with deer. The work has an appealing naïve look and will have been painted by an amateur probably copying an earlier print. The painting is signed W.E.Morey, they are not recorded, so didn’t exhibit, and will have been working at the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth. The work retains the original gilt frame which has had some overpaint over time. The whole is in very good condition and has a great naïve country house look.

The paintings depict Mountain and Lake Scenes with an impressive and charming catch of the early morning sun. Both paintings are signed A J Thornton and are in it's original Perod Oak Mount and Frame. The covering back paper is also original.
