Chapelle de la Sorbonne, begun 1626, by Lemercier, Paris. "The Chapelle de la Sorbonne is a large chapel, part of the complex of Sorbonne university. It was built between 1635 and 1642 by Lemercier. Jacques Lemercier(1585-1654), lived in Rome,for several years between 1607 and 1614, where he probably studied with Rosato Rosati, whose Church of San Carlo ai Catinari was Lemercier’s model for the Church of the Sorbonne, in Paris." 059-RAYONNANT GOTHIC, France - South transepts 1250-1260, Notre-Dame, Paris. Rayonnant style represents the height of French Gothic architecture. Rayonnant was the period between c. 1240 and 1350. After the mid-14th century, Rayonnant gradually evolved into the Late Gothic or Flamboyant style, the point of transition is not clearly defined. During this period, architects became more interested in decoration, which took such forms as pinnacles, moldings, and especially window tracery.
