Starshine in Canis Major
Massive multiple star system Tau Canis Majoris is the brightest member of open cluster NGC 2362 aka the Tau Canis Majoris Cluster, about 5,000 light years away in the constellation of Canis Major (The Great Dog). The cluster is also home to many young stars that are 4-5 million years old. Tau Canis Majoris, one of the most massive and short-lived types of star, will burn through its nuclear fuel long before its smaller companions, which will keep on shining for billions of years.
