Recommended: Size 10 thread & 1.75mm hook for the base & an optional 2.0mm hook for the petals (flower approx 3.5" across) OR Size 20 thread & 1.5mm hook for the base & a 1.75mm hook for the petals (flower approx 3" across) OR Size 30 thread & 1.25mm hook for the base & a 1.5mm hook for the petals (flower approx 2.5" across) The shank of the hook needs to be able to hold up to 13 loops. If your hooks don't allow this, or you find it too crowded, consider getting a cro-tat hook (2mm to use with size 10 thread). PRYM is a brand that is inexpensive & widely available online.
