Dragon Robe, Chifu, China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), with eight gold-couched dragons pursuing flaming pearls amidst clouds, bats, and floral sprigs against a light brown ground, a ninth dragon on the underflap, all above a lishui border with auspicious emblems emerging out of the rolling waves, with pale yellow silk lining; the collar, cuffs, and trimming with similar decorations on a dark ground, 56 x 81 in.

A rare embroidered civil official's 'Crane' rank badge, badge, buzi, Qing Dynasty, 18th century, made for a first rank official, embroidered in satin stitch in tones of blue, pink, green, red and white, the centre with a crane standing with one leg raised and the other supported on rockwork, its raised head turned towards the sun, amidst ruyi-form clouds, against a ground of couched gold thread, above rolling waves incorporating auspicious emblems of coral and be-ribboned musical chime.
